The Real Truth Accutane

Soriatane is an oral retinoid. Retinoid is a class of medication and its a synthetic form of vitamin A. It is the only oral retinoid approved by the FDA specifically for treating psoriasis. Soriatane is put into the same category as the acne drug Accutane, whose label warns of suicide, psychosis and depression, but before we go into its side effects let's look more into what soriatane psoriasis.

Soriatane, also known as acitretin, is an oral retinoid, a synthetic form of Vitamin A. Doctors have long known that large doses of Vitamin A can help reduce the thickness and scaliness of the skin, so they prescribe soriatane for psoriasis patients.

Soriatane also differs from other anti-psoriasis medications in that it does not damage cells or act as an immuno-suppressant. Other psoriasis medications are known to be immuno-suppressants and they cause damage to skin cells.

The way soriatane works is not known completely it is one of the best treatment choice for pustular psoriasis. Though soriatane is less effective as a monotherapy for chronic plaque psoriasis, combination therapy with other agents, especially UVB or psoralen plus UVA phototherapy, can enhance efficacy.

Soriatane is also known as an active metabolite of etretinate (Tegison), another drug that is used in skin disorders. The difference is that soriatane is metabolised faster and thus gone from the body faster - 2 months compared to 2 years for etretinate.

Experts advice that you store soriatane at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly closed container. Also its important to store away from heat, moisture, and light.
